Following up with more robo critters...

This is from a spitpaint challenge this morning, where the subject was "tiny beetle".  Couldn't resist doing something that yesterday's robofrog might enjoy as a snack.

Dat Thark....

I've had a Thark bouncing around in my skull, apparently.  The top doodle is from December and the other is from yesterday. I only remembered the first one when I went to save the file and saw the filename was already in use.  I like the newer one better, but might go back and lengthen the tusks.

Dungeons & Dragons turns 40...

40 years ago this month, Dungeons & Dragons emerged from the basements of Gygax and Arneson and thrust itself upon the world.  I was six, and living in the middle of rural Iowa, so it would be a few years yet before I grew aware of a game that, in a lot of ways, would change my life.  Kind of weird to say, maybe, but true.

So, Happy Birthday to the Grand Old Man of Gaming!  So, does this make the next edition of D&D sort of a midlife crisis for the game?  I suggest either a hairpiece or a convertible.

Getting ahead...

Skull study.  My bone structure was getting sloppy.

Old School Super

Blue Bolt: One of my better Champions characters.  He was a speedster with electrical powers whose costume ripped off Blue Beetle rather mightily. Still, he was pretty cool in my book...

Way behind! And The Value of Doodling.

And so you get three today!  Chemotherapy put me out for the past few days, and so we have to catch up.

You might notice that I haven't exactly stayed on topic around here lately. I mean, it is "Curmudgeons & DRAGONS", not elephants or bunnies. But, there is some method to my mindlessness.

For a while, you'll notice, that I wasn't drawing anything. Oh, I might do a job here or there for someone, but for the most part I was being very passive. A lot of my spark felt gone.  What had happened!

Easy. I had stopped doodling. Just fooling around with a pen and seeing what showed up. Everytime I sat down to draw, it was with PURPOSE, and not just letting my hand and mind go where they willed. I find that making line to make line is just as important to my psyche as a recognizable image.  Sometimes, more so. Plus, it gave me my whimsy back, which has been on hiatus as well.

So, occasionally you are going to see elephant train conductors in addition to elves and dwarves.  And can that really be a bad thing!

Conjuring up...something...

Sometimes I start a drawing with a random shape just to see what I can make.  Pterry, here, is a result of that.

Past Blast

Today's entry is very evocative of my stuff in college and just afterwards. Let's just say I had a lot of issues and leave it at that, shall we?  This was from a spitpaint yesterday, where the subject was "religious icon".

Long work day...

Long day of customer projects.  This lovely lady is part of today's efforts.  Really happy with everything I've done today, which is rare!

Vader on the radar...

Today, Darth Vader in a cartoony style.  Two of the hardest things to draw in science fiction are, in my opinion, the Starship Enterprise and Darth Vader.  But, I'm happy with this.

Spitpainting Steampunk

Last week I joined the "Daily Spitpaint"group on Facebook, where, everyday, you're given a number of topics and you are required to spend no more than 30 minutes on a piece on one of them.  A great exercise to jumpstart creativity with panic.

The topic here was Robot Lady, and the word Lady made me think Victorian, and so we get a Steampunk Robot Lady.  Barely got it done! Whew!

Send in the Clones

One thing I like about the Star Wars prequels and the Clone Wars shows are the different types of stormtrooper armor shown, which was something I imagined as a kid.  So, today, Troopers.

The Thing in the Pagoda

I came to Lovecraft through gaming, and not through his fiction.  While I can appreciate the mind bending weirdness and sheer creepiness of his stuff, I must admit I find him rather dry. Much in the same manner that some dislike Tolkien, though I am not one of those.

But, Lovecraftian horrors are fun to draw, and so you get today's Drawuary piece, the Thing.  I imagine it clinging to an ancient stone in high Nepal, where local Sherpa had constructed a temple around it centuries ago. There it sits in the lamplight, heaving up and down in slow rhythm, awaiting it's next visitor...

Welcome to Drawuary!

This month of January I declare Drawuary!  I plan to post a drawing everyday this month.  Some will be full fledged pieces, some will be doodles, but the important part is the posting.  Today, an ancient coin of the realm...
